Today we had the opportunity to meet with the City of Sweetwater and their administration to discuss future collaborations between the County and the City of Sweetwater that resides in District 12. This was also our first official meeting with Jose “Pepe” Diaz, in his role as Mayor! I look forward to continuing this friendship for the betterment of our residents.

A great night celebrating the PBA’s 60th anniversary. A special congratulations to Rick Lugo who won Officer of the Year who is family and married to my Goddaughter and niece Jennifer. Thank you to all the men and women of our police departments who keep us safe day in and day out.

Gran noche de celebración para conmemorar el aniversario 60 de la PBA. Felicitaciones especiales a Rick Lugo, galardonado como Oficial del Año, quien es parte de mi familia, casado con Jennifer, mi ahijada y sobrina. Gracias a todos los hombres y mujeres de nuestros departamentos de policía, quienes día y noche nos mantienen seguros.

El 20 de mayo conmemoramos la Independencia de Cuba, y recordamos que la libertad plena no ha llegado aun a Cuba. El régimen comunista nos robó la independencia a los cubanos y por eso reitero mi compromiso por ayudar a devolver la libertad a mi país natal.

On May 20 we commemorate the Independence of Cuba, and we remember that full freedom has not yet reached Cuba. The communist regime stole our independence from Cubans and that is why I reiterate my commitment to help restore freedom to my native country.

This week, we celebrated the career of Major Gener

This week, we celebrated the career of Major General Rafael A. Ribas. Major General Ribas served as the Deputy Commander for Mobilization and Reserve Affairs for the U.S. Southern Command in District 12. The Major General is a South-Florida native and UM Alumni whose decorated career cannot be understated. Additionally, we had the opportunity to welcome Major General Javier Reina who will be the new Deputy Commander for the U.S. Southern Command. We thank Major General Ribas for his years of service and wish him a peaceful retirement.

Esta semana celebramos la carrera del Mayor General Rafael A. Ribas. El General de División Ribas se desempeñó como Comandante Adjunto de Movilización y Asuntos de Reserva para el Comando Sur de los Estados Unidos, ubicado en el Distrito 12. El General de División es nativo del sur de la Florida y ex alumno de UM, cuya carrera plena de condecoraciones no puede subestimarse. Adicionalmente, tuvimos la oportunidad de dar la bienvenida al Mayor General Javier Reina, quien será el nuevo Subcomandante del Comando Sur de los Estados Unidos. Agradecemos al General de División Ribas por sus años de servicio y le deseamos un retiro sereno y plácido.

Today, we celebrated the grand opening of TFKM’s new radio-station here in District 12. Giovanny Pereyra and his team have been working diligently for years to help the community, from street cleanups to hosting charitable events that benefit less fortunate children. You can tune in and hear them on 1450AM and 101.9FM. Please join me in congratulating the TFKM team on their new location and continued success.

Giovanny Pereyra y su equipo han estado trabajando diligentemente durante años para ayudar a la comunidad, desde la limpieza de calles hasta la organización de eventos benéficos, que favorecen a los niños menos afortunados. Today I had the pleasure of attending a great event and joining my dear friend Carlos Martinez, President and CEO of the United HomeCare, at their 28th Annual Luncheon and Claude Pepper Awards, celebrating the achievements of 6 exceptional individuals in our community who exemplify the spirit and ideals of the late Senator Claude Pepper. I want to thank United HomeCare for this wonderful event and for their continued efforts in ensuring the elderly and disabled members of Miami-Dade County are cared for at their homes. Congratulations to the honorees!

Hoy tuve el placer de asistir a un gran evento en compañía de mi querido amigo Carlos Martínez, Presidente y Director Ejecutivo de United HomeCare, en su 28º Almuerzo Anual y entrega de Premios Claude Pepper, celebrando los logros de 6 personas excepcionales en nuestra comunidad, que ejemplifican el espíritu e ideales del difunto Senador Claude Pepper. This morning we had the opportunity to host the CFO of our state of Florida,Jimmy Patronis, at a business located in District 12 PGI Innovations. We had the chance to inform the public about the sales tax and hardening incentives being provided. This sales tax exemption allows Florida homeowners to harden their homes against storms while making them eligible to save money on their insurance premiums, as well as a grant that can get you up to $10,000 when replacing your doors or windows as you make your home safer for the hurricane season.

Esta mañana tuvimos la oportunidad de recibir al CFO de nuestro estado de la Florida, Jimmy Patronis, en las instalaciones de PGI Innovations, una empresa ubicada en el Distrito 12 del Condado Miami-Dade. El motivo de su visita era informar al público sobre el impuesto a las ventas y el fortalecimiento de los incentivos que se están brindando.
